The demand for plant-based protein products around the globe encouraged Domino's to bring its plant-based meat products. The company has launched the 'Unthinkable Pizza' in India on 23rd December 2020.
First, we have to understand what is plant-based protein?
Usually, green veggies are full of carbohydrates and contain less protein. Due to a lack of protein in veggies, people search for non-vegetarian food in order to get high protein, which is not animal-friendly according to some groups of people. Hence, they came up with the concept of plant-based protein and later plant-based meat, which is 100% veg-meat.
Singapore was the first country to allow restaurants to sell plant-based meat in mid-2020, while Domino's is the first Quick Service Restaurant chain to launch plant-based meat in India under the parent company Jubilant Foodworks Limited, a listed entity. According to a company official, 'The Unthinkable Pizza' will provide both vegetarians and non-vegetarians a new option that the company is delighted to launch the brand-new trend in the Indian market through plant-based products.
The Unthinkable Pizza by Domino's will be available in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore in the first place. Domino's Pizza has 1264 restaurants across 281 cities in India. Jubilant Foodworks holds the India franchisee for Domino's Pizza and Dunkin Donuts brand. Recently, the company has acquired a 10.76% stake in Barbeque Nation for INR 92 crore, which owns 138 restaurants across 73 cities in India.
Plant-based Domino's at Global Level:
During the last year, Domino's started offering vegan pizzas at more than 1200 locations across the United Kingdom. According to VegNews, the company will launch its vegan pizzas in Australia made by the US-based brand.
This trend shows the growing demand for plant-based meat will be lucrative in the future as it will be the next big thing.
